Pages of a storyboard I did for a Brazilian Insurance Plan. Due to the nature of animation, which will have a link here in the near future and was done in motion graphics, by David Hoffman, we had to keep it relatively simple and somewhat limited. It was a challenge to keep the action simpler than I’d usually do, and I’m very happy with the results. Check the other pages in the Storyboards section 😉

Devido à natureza da animação, que em breve terá um link aqui, e foi feita em motion graphics por David Hoffman, tivemos que simplificar e de certo modo limitar a animação. Chilling Bears

Digital painting of some bears chilling on a tree, drinking coffee and playing chess. I’m trying some new approaches, like using saturated colors and brushes that reproduce traditional media.

Pintura digital de uns ursos relaxando em cima de uma árvore, tomando café e jogando xadrez. Estou testando abordagens novas, como usar cores saturadas e pincéis que reproduzem o efeito de mídias tradicionais.

I really like seeing the creative process when I see a finalized painting, so, I’m going to share some of mine. Here are the sketches I did for it, while I was still exploring ideas. At first, I was going for a more subtle approach, with the colors, but I wasn’t really happy with it, it didn’t match the playfulness I wanted to depict on this scene.

Eu gosto muito de ver o processo criativo por trás de imagens finalizadas, então, vou compartilhar um pouco do meu. Aqui estão os rascunhos que eu fiz pra esta ilustração, enquanto eu estava explorando ideias diferentes. No início, eu tinha escolhido uma abordagem mais neutra, em relação às cores, mas eu não estava contente com isso, não combinava com a atmosfera divertida que eu queria mostrar nesta cena.

Mini illustrations of the National Parks Part 1

I decided to start a new “collection” of small illustrations (“almost” icons) of the National Parks in America. They’re vector drawings, so, they’re very stylized. My intention isn’t to do something realistic, but I don’t want to make something completely “graphic”, either. So, I’m working to find a happy medium.

These are the first two I’ve made, of the Arches and Badlands Natural Parks.

Eu resolvi começar uma nova “coleção” de ilustrações em tamanho pequeno (ícones, talvez?) dos Parques Naturais aqui dos Estados Unidos. São ilustrações vetoriais, então, elas são bem estilizadas. Minha intenção não é fazer algo realista, mas ao mesmo tempo, eu não quero fazer algo totalmente “gráfico”. Então, estou trabalhando pra chegar a um meio termo interessante.

Estas são as duas primeiras que eu fiz, do Arches e do Badlands Natural Parks.

Octopus

Animation assistance, inbetweening and clean-up of an octopus scene. It’s wrapping itself around two letters, RR, but they don’t show in this video. It was one of the most rewarding scenes in which I worked; I’m really happy with the results. The animator is Paulo Ignez.

Assistência de animação, intervalação e clean-up de uma cena de um polvo. Ele está se contorcendo em volta de duas letras, RR, mas estas não aparecem neste vídeo. Foi uma das cenas que me deu mais satisfação ao fazer; fiquei muito contente com o resultado. O animador é o Paulo Ignez.

Demeter, Greek goddess of harvest

Phew, after a quite long hiatus, a new post! I’ve been working on many different things, most of which can’t be published yet (due to contracts with clients), so, I haven’t had much time to work on my own stuff. But I managed to squeeze some time for my own ideas here and there, and this is the first in a series of Greek gods (and probably some gods from other mythologies) that I’m planning to illustrate.

Ufa, depois de um longo hiato, uma publicação nova! Eu andei trabalhando em várias coisas diferentes, a maioria não podendo ser publicada ainda (devido a contratos com meus clientes), então, não tive muito tempo de trabalhar no meu material pessoal. Mas eu consegui arrumar um tempinho pra trabalhar nas minhas ideias, aqui e ali, e esta é a primeira de uma série de deuses gregos (e provavelmente alguns deuses de outras mitologias) que eu estou pensando em ilustrar.

Some more sketches for watercolor paintings

Here are some more sketches I did for new watercolors (still to be made). I find the Angeles National Forest to be a very inspiring place, with the portions near Los Angeles not really looking like one would expect for a forest, looking (to me, at least!) more like a mix of a desert and a forest. Really beautiful and unique.

Aqui estão mais alguns rascunhos que eu fiz para pinturas em aquarela (que ainda vão ser feitas). Acho a Angeles National Forest um lugar muito inspirador, com sua porção próxima à Los Angeles não parecendo exatamente o que se espera de uma floresta, mas sim (pelo menos pra mim!) mais uma mistura de um deserto com uma floresta. Muito bela e sem comparação.
